sad goodbyes and new adventures

saturday morning started with an early morning breakfast with elizabeth at "gravy" -- yummy food and great conversation. it was hard to say goodbye to such a great friend, but we know we'll stay in touch (and she plans to visit us in hotlanta!). we'll miss you, li'l e.

following breakfast, the last-minute move preparation insanity began. long story -- won't go into it. suffice it to say, we both gained a few gray hairs.... nevertheless, we managed to empty the apartment and turn in the keys to our (former) home. we're homeless. again.

thankfully we were able to escape to the oasis that is the hummel/christiensen estate. we shared a wonderful meal and lots of laughs with stan, alan and simon. we'll miss you guys very much. (they also plan to visit us in hotlanta!)

this morning we left portland bound for boise, idaho. during our drive, were constantly captivated by the simplistic beauty of the columbia river gorge. it's spectacular! below are pictures of the terrain along our route. by the way, boise is quite charming and quaint. we are pleasantly surprised!

as always, we're sending lots of love and hugs across the miles....the girlz

It brought tears to my eyes as I remember how difficult it was when me, you, and Chris left Winston-Salem to return to Atlanta. You have so many mixed feelings. Lots of adventures to look forward to in the next 2 weeks during your trek to Hotlanta and then new adventures once you arrive. All of your friends are more than welcome to come to your "temporary home" should they decide before you get your NEW home! I love you very much!

To the Girls,

All I can say is it has been a wonderful experience getting to know you both. The moment I met you two and saw that jar of marshmallow fluff on the belt at my register, I knew you would be special, in a good way, and you have been. Thanks.

I have enjoyed all our evenings together, as well as all our activities (rodeo, elevator, pride…), and the unlimited laughs. I look forward to our next encounter.

I must admit, it wasn’t easy to sit by and watch you 2 leave. When we called it a night and went to bed I laid there and had thoughts of sabotage, hypnosis, locking the gate and forgetting the combination, just to name a few. It wasn’t the fear of facing the wraith of Momma Black that prevented my ideas from coming to life but it was a factor. While I pondered my options, it was the realization that I was just as excited for you as you were that allowed me to rest.

I’m sure you will do well in Atlanta. I’m sure you will find good employment and soon enough, a home to call your own. I’m sure you’ll make new friends, explore your new surroundings and most important, continue to enjoy each other & that special relationship you have. I’m sure it will all be good.

To Momma Black,
Make sure and take good care of these girls. Because they know they are ALWAYS welcome back here, in soggy, rude, inconsiderate, sunless Oregon. Hey, at least we have water.

To Stan:
You really know how to make a "girl" aka woman laugh, don't cha? I will certainly take care of them. Yes, at least you have water but we have warm summer nights and HOT summer days along with real changes of seasons. Take care of you and Alan!!
