So much to tell, so little time

This will be a short post, but wanted to share pictures from last weekend's Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park. We enjoyed the beautiful weather while viewing fantastic art as well as people watching: a perfect day!

What is my girl carrying?

Photobucket
Why, it's a sweet, fluffy, yummy funnel cake! (and yes, we ate the whole thing.)

In other news, we've started gardening inside our treetop hideaway. Actually, we didn't start the garden, but it appeared out of nowhere, just like magic. Curious, no? We'll keep you in suspense no longer: We have mushrooms growing in our apartment. Two of them. I'm not kidding. Here's a picture to prove it.

The magic mushroom is slightly to the left of the stained, brownish door frame. It's little, round and also brown.

Thanks to our slumlords, we've discovered how easy gardening can be. Without even trying, we grew salad fixins'! How can that be?, you may be asking yourself. Well, when it rains heavily, the water seeps underneath our front door and causes the carpet to become wet and soggy and moldy.

(Note: Our slumlords are well aware of the water damage/soggy carpet/mold issue. In fact, this issue has occurred ever since the apartment was built more than two years ago. And yet, they've done nothing to fix the problem. I know you're shocked.)

Speaking of slumlords and problems, remember the pool, a.k.a. Okeefenokee Swamp? Well, it's even greener and swampier than before. But now, in a karmic twist of fate, the fence surrounding the pool has started leaning backwards, so Samford tied ropes from our steps to the fence posts in an attempt to save part of the fence from sliding into the ravine. The saga keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

Needless to say, we're not gonna miss these guys when we move into our condo. We will, however, miss blogging about their crazy antics.

P.S. Stay tuned for pictures from our upcoming trip to Savannah, GA!

We're movin' on up

(cue the theme song to "The Jeffersons")

It's been a whirlwind of activity these past few days because...

we...

just...

bought...

a...

condo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're both still a little shocked and amazed by it all. Our new home is on the fifteenth floor of a new development in Midtown and our view overlooks downtown Atlanta. It's beautiful! Anyway, here are some pictures.

We close on May 15, so thankfully we won't have to deal with our lovely yard swamp much longer.

Also, in other news, Minnesota starts her brand new job with Savannah College of Art & Design-Atlanta on April 20th! Needless to say, we're thrilled!

We'll keep you posted on the house and job developments.

The experiment continues

I just read an article about Italy's plan to transform algae into biofuel by harvesting algae from Venice's canals and I wondered, is that what our landlords are intending to do with their backyard "swimming pool"?? How innovative, earth-friendly and forward thinking of them! But then I remembered they're slumlords, not brilliant scientists. Care to see recent images of our backyard oasis? Here you go.

Photobucket

We're now one and a half weeks into the algae cultivating process, and the slumlords are showing no signs of movement toward a clearer, cleaner pool in which to swim. We're praying the mosquito population doesn't hear about its existence because, if so, we're in trouble. No window screens and a gigantic mosquito breeding ground right outside our apartment doesn't make for a good combination for us humans.

We hope you're enjoying glimpses of gorgeous blooming trees and beautiful spring flowers as much as we are. Those sights help to distract us from the squalor that surrounds our home.
